About the Sites:

Burrendong Botanic Garden and Arboretum

  • Established in 1964, this 167-hectare sanctuary offers various walking and self-drive trails through diverse habitats, including a captivating fern gully.
  • Encounter woodland birds such as Diamond Firetails, Little Lorikeets, honeyeaters, and the occasional Gilbert’s Whistlers.
  • The Fern Gully is a haven for White-browed Scrubwrens and curious Eastern Yellow Robins.

How to Find the Site

Lake Burrendong is conveniently located:

  • One hour’s drive from Dubbo or Orange
  • Five hours from Sydney
  • 27km southeast of Wellington for those coming from the north of the state.
  • The State Park and Arboretum are approximately one kilometer apart.

Access Information and Facilities:

  • All sites have sealed access roads with ample car parking.
  • A voluntary donation is requested at the Arboretum, and entry fees apply to the State Park.
  • State Park facilities include powered and unpowered campsites, on-site cabins, powered caravan sites, a kiosk, fuel, and full amenities.

Opening Hours:

  • Arboretum: Open daily from 8 am to 6 pm. Closed during fire hazards.
  • State Park: Open seven days a week from 9 am to 5 pm.
  • Lake Burrendong Sport and Recreation Centre: By prior arrangement only.
